I like this actually. My C Class has glossy pillars that while nice, scratch incredibly easily.

My Jetta has the glossy black pillars on them as well. I was actually thinking of putting a clear protective film over them to keep them looking new. Then when the film gets scratched up I can replace it with a new one.

EDIT: I also got lucky with my Yukon because the doors on it are fully painted.

I actually think this looks pretty good. Not nearly as bad as the chrome ones you see sometimes.

not bad, thinking about the odd silverish tone my originally black pillars have taken on over time, perhaps a little CF wrap is the solution

Not true, but they do add amazing amounts of lightness. Which is as good as horsepower.
